Evangelist Gerald Mayhan and his wife, Phyllis, invite you to hear their testimony of the miracle working power of Jesus Christ in their lives and in their marriage.
After graduating from high school, they were married in 1969, and later moved to Washington, D.C. Gerald was drafted into the military and served in Vietnam where he began using drugs that controlled his life for 18 years.
In 1989, he entered the Teen Challenge Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program where Jesus Christ saved him and delivered him from drug addiction. Soon after, God restored Gerald’s marriage that had almost been destroyed due to his addiction and then God called him to preach his Glorious Gospel which he has been preaching for nearly 32 years. Gerald is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. Currently, Gerald and Phyllis are active members of First Assembly of God in Alexandria, VA, where he is the Church Evangelist. Recently appointed by the National Headquarters in Springfield, MO. as the Evangelist for the Potomac Ministry Network (serving DC, MD & WV). He serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the Teen Challenge Ministry in Capitol Heights, MD and Fredericksburg, VA. Since 1993, Gerald has been involved in Prison Ministry in the US and abroad. During Spiritual Emphasis Week, he ministered to students from 12 TC centers for men, women and adolescents along with 400 staff in the surrounding areas of Boston, MA. He was one of the speakers at the 2009 National Evangelists Conference at Valley Forge Christian College in PA.
When Evangelist Mayhan is not preaching in the prisons, he is holding revivals and camp meetings in the Washington Metropolitan Area and in over 15 States–West Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, California and Utah. He was also blessed to preach in Israel. Since 1996, he has led 26 mission trips to such places as: the Navajo Nation in Gallup, New Mexico; the African countries of Ghana, Cape Town and Swaziland; the Caribbean countries of Antigua, Barbados, the Bahamas, Curacao, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines; the South American country of Peru; and, the Central American Countries of Belize and Guatemala.
In spite of all the places he has preached, “Street Ministry” remains his priority. Each
year, he holds numerous street meetings in Washington, DC and Alexandria, Virginia, as well as many other cities all over the country where many souls have been saved. In September 2002, Evangelist Mayhan headed up the Alexandria Convoy of Hope (COH). This outreach touched over 7,300 people, 1,109 salvations, 1,189 volunteers, 54 churches participated, and 72,000 lbs. of free food given away. In August 2003, Evangelist Mayhan headed his second COH in Washington, DC. This COH ministered to over 6,500 people, 1,200 salvations, 1,600
volunteers, 109 churches participated, 86,000 lbs. of free food given away.
For the last 10 years (2010-2019), Evangelist Mayhan and Phyllis have held an annual free community event, Love in Action–West Virginia, in their hometown of McDowell County, West Virginia. Each year, the Mayhans bless the community with free groceries, backpacks filled with school supplies, clothing, household items, and giveaways such as cameras, laptops and tablets. As a result of this compassionate outreach, thousands of souls have been saved.
God has guided his footsteps from the beginning of his first ministry at Howard University Hospital over 30 years ago. Evangelist Gerald “Fire Shut Up in His Bones” Mayhan will tell the world that he is not the same, and he stands on II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, and behold, all things are become new.”
